    Pregnancy

At Church Street Practice we will happily provide you with advice if you are trying to become pregnant. If you have just found out you are pregnant Congratulations! We are sure you will have many questions about our maternity services. We work very closely with the Community Midwives to manage your pregnancy. Further details can be found in the During Pregnancy page here.

When you find that you are pregnant you will need to arrange a booking appointment with the GP of your choice. This is usually a 20 minute consultation where you can ask any questions you may have regarding your pregnancy and where the GP will provide you with a lot of written information including your blue pregnancy notes.  At this appointment various forms will be completed including those requesting scans.

It is important that you are start taking folic acid (400mcg per day) if you are not already. If you are smoking it is very important to try and stop for the health of your baby. Stopping smoking significantly reduces problems during pregnancy.

For reliable information see the NHS pregnancy planner here. It is an interactive site which answers your questions from what to do before becoming pregnant through to planning your delivery!
