    Pneumococcal Immunisation                                                  

The pneumococcus is a bacterium that can cause pneumonia and meningitis.. This is a once only jab. The following patients are eligible to receive a vaccination against pneumococcal infection:
  • You are over 65
  • You don't have a spleen, or your spleen doesn't work properly
  • Your immune system doesn't work properly (due to HIV, chemotherapy etc)
  • You  have chronic respiratory disease, including severe asthma
  • You have chronic heart diseaseYou have chronic kidney disease
  • You have chronic liver disease You have diabetes requiring medication
  • You have a cochlear implant You have a CSF shunt
