Pneumococcal Immunisation

The pneumococcus is a bacterium that can cause pneumonia and meningitis.. This is a once only jab. The following patients are eligible to receive a vaccination against pneumococcal infection:

You are over 65
You don't have a spleen, or your spleen doesn't work properly
Your immune system doesn't work properly (due to HIV, chemotherapy etc)
You have chronic respiratory disease, including severe asthma
You have chronic heart diseaseYou have chronic kidney disease
You have chronic liver disease You have diabetes requiring medication
You have a cochlear implant You have a CSF shunt
