The Out of Hour’s Service is run by the Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust and is based on the Community Hospital site, Marcham Road, Abingdon. This service operates between 6:30 pm and 8:00 am Monday to Friday and throughout the weekend and bank holidays. Patients must telephone this service and cannot just turn up at the Abingdon base. If you forget the number, you can ring the surgery for this as we have a recorded message giving the details.

When you call them some basic details are taken first by the trained telephone operator. They then classify your problem as being urgent, less urgent or routine. Calls then appear on the doctors screen at Abingdon and you are phoned back. That doctor will then deal with your problem on the phone or arrange to see you at Abingdon Hospital.

If you have spoken to or been seen by the Out of Hours Team at Abingdon we will get a print out of your contact the next working day. This is added to your records and read by the duty doctor for that day. If the Out of Hours service has asked you to see us for a follow up it is your responsibility to arrange this.

The Surgery is responsible for all calls from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm, Monday to Friday and if you need a doctor urgently you should ring 01235 770245 or 01235 774513. We will only deal with urgent calls between 8:00 and 8:30 am, so please do not ring for appointments etc. until after 8:30.
