After qualifying as an RGN I spent 2 years working as a Staff Nurse on a busy general surgical ward. My career then took a change in direction towards Cancer Care as I took on the role of a Staff Nurse on Blenheim Ward at the Churchill Hospital. During this time I developed a wide range of skills in caring for patients receiving chemotherapy . My role changed again as I became a Research Sister for ICRF (now Cancer Research UK), during this time I cared for my own caseload of patients who were receiving treatment as part of a clinical trial. This was a most challenging, fulfilling but at times very difficult role. During this time I completed my DIP HE in Cancer Care at Oxford Brookes University. In 2000 it was time for a change and I began to work as a Practice Nurse at a surgery in Abingdon. I soon realised what a diverse and exciting role this could be. I came to join the Practice Nurse Team at Church Street in May 2002. I really enjoy working in such a friendly, enthusiastic and professional team. I have completed a range of training courses including Insulin Initiation in Type 2 Diabetes, Injury Management and a Diploma in Asthma Care. As well as managing a range of long term conditions, my role includes leading the Practice Nurse and Health Care Assistant team. I am currently studying part-time at Oxford Brookes and working towards a PG cert in Non-Medical Prescribing, which along with the support of my GP colleagues will provide the knowledge and skills to establish a minor illness service within the Practice.
