     Baby Checks

After your baby has been born your baby will have an initial check with the midwives in the community or the paedatricians at the hospital. If this has not been done your baby will need an initial examination by one of our doctors. This should be done within 48hrs of birth. If you wish to read more about the screening checks on your baby please download the pdf file available here from the national NHS screening program website.

After the birth you will be seen over the first week by the community midwives and then after this by the health visitors. If there are any problems with how you are feeling, how your baby is or  problems with feeding the midwives or health visitors will provide you with good advice. They may ask you to see one of our doctors.

At 6 weeks after birth you will have a check with one of the doctors who will make sure things are going well with you and your baby. This is a time to re-examine your baby and discuss contraception with you. If you wish to know more about the 6 week check click here. If you wish to know more about contraception click here.
