Alcohol Problems
|
If you would like to discuss your alcohol use please come and see one of our nurses.
The majority of people who have an alcohol problem don't realise that
they do! 1 in 4 adults drink above the current recommended levels. This
has led to an increase in alcohol health related problems. Safe drinking levels are 2-3 units a day for women and 3-4 units a day for men with 2 alcohol free days each week. For an easy way to work out a unit: Strength (%) x Volume (ml) ÷ 1000 = No. of units. E.g. Pint of Stella = 5.2% x 568mls ÷ 1000 = 2.95 If you want to find out whether you may be drinking too much visit either downyourdrink.org.uk or drinkaware.co.uk. A basic alcohol questionnaire can be found on our practice health questionnaire click here to download it. When you come to see the nurse we understand that this is often a big step as it may mean admitting you have a problem. We will sensitively help you with setting goals for your drinking and arrange to see you again. You may want to have blood tests to find out how your body is coping- the nurse can arrange these. The nurse may want you to see the local support service called SMART for further help. You can read more about their services here They have a local mobile drop in service between 14.00-16.00 at Sainsbury’s car park, Limborough Road.
